Xiaomi Home

The Xiaomi Home integrationIntegrations connect and integrate Home Assistant with your devices, services, and more. [Learn more] supports the following devices:

Prerequisites

Most Xiaomi Home devices are configured using the Home Assistant UI. The Xiaomi device tracker and Xiaomi IR Remote require manual YAML configuration.

Before you add a device to Home Assistant:

  1. Install the Xiaomi Home app and sign in to your account.
  2. Add the device to the Xiaomi Home app.
  3. Use the Xiaomi Home app instead of a vendor-specific app, such as the Roborock app.

Note

Xiaomi Home devices might not be discovered across subnets or VLANs. For network requirements and possible solutions, see the python-miio troubleshooting guide.

Configuration

To add the Xiaomi Home hub to your Home Assistant instance, use this My button:

Xiaomi Home can be auto-discovered by Home Assistant. If an instance was found, it will be shown as Discovered. You can then set it up right away.

Manual configuration steps

If it wasn’t discovered automatically, don’t worry! You can set up a manual integration entry:

  • Browse to your Home Assistant instance.

  • Go to Settings > Devices & services.

  • In the bottom right corner, select the Add Integration button.

  • From the list, select Xiaomi Home.

  • Follow the instructions on screen to complete the setup.

During setup, enter your Xiaomi Home account credentials and select the server region you use in the Xiaomi Home app. Home Assistant retrieves your device’s connection information and API token, then connects to the device over your local network.

If you cannot use your Xiaomi Home account, select Configure manually (not recommended). You need the device’s IP address and 32-character API token. For instructions on finding the API token, refer to Retrieving the access token.

Username

The email address or username for your Xiaomi Home account.

Password

The password for your Xiaomi Home account.

Server region

The server region you use in the Xiaomi Home app. For a list of regions, refer to the country server list.

Configure manually (not recommended)

Turn this on to set up a device using its IP address and API token instead of your Xiaomi Home account.

IP address

The IP address of the device. You only need it when you set up a device manually and Home Assistant has not discovered it.

API token

The 32-character API token for the device.

Troubleshooting

Devices on different subnets are not discovered

Symptom: The device is not discovered

Your Xiaomi Home device is not discovered when it is on a different subnet or VLAN from Home Assistant.

Description

Xiaomi Home devices might not communicate across subnets or VLANs.

Resolution

For network requirements and possible solutions, see the python-miio troubleshooting guide.

Roborock vacuum is not detected

Symptom: The vacuum is not discovered

Your Roborock vacuum is not discovered by the Xiaomi Home integration.

Description

The Xiaomi Home integration requires the vacuum to be connected to the Xiaomi Home app, not the Roborock app.

Resolution

Connect the vacuum to the Xiaomi Home app. For more information, see the python-miio troubleshooting guide.

Connection is intermittent

Symptom: The device is intermittently unavailable

The device periodically stops responding in Home Assistant.

Description

Blocking network access can cause the device to stop responding until its internal watchdog restarts its software.

Resolution

If you block the vacuum’s internet access, configure your firewall to reject connections (REJECT) instead of silently dropping them (DROP). For more information, see the python-miio troubleshooting guide.

Xiaomi Gateway

The Xiaomi Home integrationIntegrations connect and integrate Home Assistant with your devices, services, and more. [Learn more] allows you to control the gateway and its connected subdevices.

Supported Xiaomi gateway models

Retrieving connected subdevices through Xiaomi Home

Some gateways, such as lumi.gateway.mieu01, cannot retrieve connected subdevices locally. To add their subdevices, use the Xiaomi Home service.

  1. During setup, provide your Xiaomi Home account credentials.
  2. Go to Settings > Devices & services.
  3. Select Xiaomi Home, then select the cogwheel (Configure) next to your gateway.
  4. Turn on Use Xiaomi Home service to get connected subdevices, then select Submit.

Home Assistant retrieves the subdevices from Xiaomi Home, then controls them and receives their status updates over your local network. If credentials are required but have not been provided, Home Assistant starts a reauthentication flow.

Gateway features

  • Alarm: Arms or disarms the gateway alarm, and shows whether it is armed away, disarmed, or arming.
  • Light: Turns the gateway light on or off, and sets its brightness and color.

ScriptA script is a saved list of steps that runs when you start it, for example, from a dashboard, with Assist, or from an automation. Unlike an automation, a script has no triggers, so it doesn't start by itself. [Learn more]
script:
  vacuum_kitchen:
    alias: "Clean the kitchen"
    sequence:
      - action: vacuum.send_command
        target:
          entity_id: vacuum.xiaomi_vacuum_cleaner
        data:
          command: app_segment_clean
          params:
            - 18

The params value specifies a room number. To clean multiple rooms, provide a list of room numbers, such as 17 and 18. For instructions on finding valid room numbers and the rooms they map to, refer to Retrieving room numbers.

Resetting maintenance hours

The vacuum entity stores the remaining time before its brushes, filter, and sensors need maintenance in the main_brush_left, side_brush_left, filter_left, and sensor_dirty_left attributes. The values are measured in hours. After cleaning or replacing a part, use vacuum.send_command to reset its maintenance hours. This example resets the main brush:

ScriptA script is a saved list of steps that runs when you start it, for example, from a dashboard, with Assist, or from an automation. Unlike an automation, a script has no triggers, so it doesn't start by itself. [Learn more]
script:
  reset_main_brush_left:
alias: "Reset hours for main brush replacement"
    sequence:
      - action: vacuum.send_command
        target:
          entity_id: vacuum.xiaomi_vacuum_cleaner
        data:
          command: reset_consumable
          params:
            - "main_brush_work_time"

The reset_consumable command supports these params values:

  • main_brush_work_time
  • side_brush_work_time

  3. Open the map while connected to the same network as your vacuum.
  4. Select Zone cleanup, then draw a box around the area you want to clean.
  5. Press and hold Cleanup to copy the zone coordinates to your clipboard.

Using RoboRock Control Center (requires Valetudo firmware)

RoboRock Control Center supports rooted and non-rooted vacuums and can work locally without the cloud. If you install Valetudo firmware on a rooted vacuum, you can connect to it with SSH and enable MQTT and map functions.

Use the map editor to find the coordinates for zone cleaning. This example cleans a zone:

ScriptA script is a saved list of steps that runs when you start it, for example, from a dashboard, with Assist, or from an automation. Unlike an automation, a script has no triggers, so it doesn't start by itself. [Learn more]
script:
  vacuum_kitchen:
    alias: "Vacuum kitchen"
    sequence:
      - action: vacuum.send_command
        target:
          entity_id: "vacuum.xiaomi_vacuum_cleaner"
        data:
          command: app_zoned_clean
          params:
            - - 23084
              - 26282
              - 27628

miiocli roborockvacuum --ip <ip of the vacuum> --token <your vacuum token> get_room_mapping

The command returns room numbers and their user-defined names as (number, name) pairs. You can also test the clean_segment action with a number to identify the room it cleans.

The vacuum appears to use numbers 1 through 15 for its initial room segmentation. Numbers 16 and above appear to be rooms created by manual edits.

Retrieving the access token

Only retrieve an access token if you are setting up a device manually or configuring a Xiaomi Mi Wi-Fi Repeater 2 or Xiaomi IR Remote in configuration.yamlThe configuration.yaml file is the main configuration file for Home Assistant. It lists the integrations to be loaded and their specific configurations. In some cases, the configuration needs to be edited manually directly in the configuration.yaml file. Most integrations can be configured in the UI. [Learn more]. For other devices, sign in to your Xiaomi Home account during setup so Home Assistant can retrieve the token automatically.

Xiaomi Cloud Tokens Extractor

The community-maintained Xiaomi Cloud Tokens Extractor can retrieve tokens for devices connected to your Xiaomi account. The project provides a Windows executable and Python source code for other platforms. To run the source code:

  1. Install the requirements:
pip3 install pycryptodome pybase64 requests
  1. Run the script:
python3 token_extractor.py
  1. Enter the email address or username, password, and region for your Xiaomi account.
  2. The script lists the devices connected to the account with their IP addresses and access tokens.

Retrieving a gateway access token using Xiaomi Home

  1. Install the Xiaomi Home app and sign in to your account.
  2. Set the region to Chinese mainland.
  3. Select your gateway, then select the three dots menu .
  4. Select About.
  5. Repeatedly select the version number at the bottom of the page to enable developer mode.
  6. On Android, select Hub info, then find the token value in the JSON text. On iOS, select the fourth option from the top.

Note

If you need tokens for multiple devices, the Xiaomi Home app might show a token that does not work with a device. Use the Xiaomi Cloud Tokens Extractor instead.

Retrieving an access token with the Get Mi Home Devices Token app

On Windows or macOS, you can use Get MiHome devices token to retrieve an access token. Download the file for your operating system, enter your sign-in details, and follow the app’s instructions.

Other ways to retrieve an access token

Note

These methods rely on old Mi Home app versions and have not been verified with current versions. Try the Xiaomi Cloud Tokens Extractor first.

Use these methods only if the token extractor is not suitable for your device.

After you reset the Wi-Fi settings of a Xiaomi robot vacuum, it generates a new access token.

These methods require the Xiaomi Home app, not the Roborock app.

The access token contains 32 hexadecimal characters.

Android (not rooted)

Note

This method uses Mi Home version 5.4.49, which was last verified in December 2019.

  1. Set up your vacuum in the current version of the Xiaomi Home app.
  2. If the vacuum is already set up, reset its Wi-Fi settings to generate a new access token.
  3. Install Mi Home version 5.4.49 and locate a text file in the Smarthome/logs folder.
  4. Search the files for token to find the 32-character access token.

Linux and rooted Android

  1. Set up your vacuum in the current version of the Xiaomi Home app.
  2. Assign the vacuum a static IP address in your router.
  3. Install Mi Home version 5.4.54 on your rooted Android device and sign in. You cannot install two Mi Home versions at the same time.
  4. Use the same server region that you used to set up the vacuum.
  5. Connect to the device with adb shell and become root.
  6. Run grep -R '"token"' /data/data/com.xiaomi.smarthome to find the access token.

iOS

  1. Set up the vacuum in the Xiaomi Home app. Select the region used to set up the vacuum, as product names vary by region.

  2. Create an unencrypted backup of your iPhone using iTunes. On macOS 10.15 and later, use Finder instead.

  3. Install iBackup Viewer, open it, and open your backup.

  4. Open the “Raw Data” module.

  5. Navigate to com.xiaomi.mihome.

  6. Search for a file named like 123456789_mihome.sqlite. Do not use _mihome.sqlite. The file is usually in the Documents folder.

  7. Save the file to your computer.

  8. Install DB Browser for SQLite, open it, then open the .sqlite file.

  9. Select the Execute SQL tab.

  10. Run the query for your device type:

-- Retrieve the token for a vacuum
SELECT ZTOKEN FROM ZDEVICE WHERE ZMODEL LIKE "%vacuum%"

-- Retrieve the token for a smart power strip
SELECT ZTOKEN FROM ZDEVICE WHERE ZMODEL LIKE "%powerstrip%"

-- Retrieve the token for a smart plug
SELECT ZTOKEN FROM ZDEVICE WHERE ZMODEL LIKE "%plug%"

  11. Copy the returned 96-digit hexadecimal string.

  12. Run this command in a terminal:

    echo '0: <YOUR HEXADECIMAL STRING>' | xxd -r -p | openssl enc -d -aes-128-ecb -nopad -nosalt -K 00000000000000000000000000000000

  13. Use the resulting 32-character string as the access token.

Bluestacks

  1. Set up the vacuum in the Xiaomi Home app, using the region selected when you set up the vacuum.
  2. Install BlueStacks.
  3. Install Mi Home version 5.4.49 in BlueStacks and sign in to synchronize your devices.
  4. In the More Apps menu, open File Manager.
  5. Select Explore, then navigate to sdcard/SmartHome/logs/plug_DeviceManager.
  6. Select Export to Windows, then export one or more files to your local disk.
  7. Search the exported files for "token":"<yourTokenHere>".

Miio command line tool

Use Miio before connecting the vacuum to the Xiaomi Home app. If the vacuum is already paired, remove it from the app and join the ad hoc Wi-Fi network created by the vacuum. Otherwise, the command might return ??? instead of the access token.

To discover devices on the current network, run:

npx miio discover

The command lists devices connected to the same network as your computer. Allow a few minutes for all devices to respond.

The command displays each device in this format:

Device ID: 48765421
Model info: zhimi.airpurifier.m1
Address: 192.168.100.9
Token: token-as-hex-here via auto-token
Support: At least basic

The output includes:

  • Device ID: The unique identifier of the device. It does not change if you reset the device.
  • Model ID: The model ID, when it can be identified.
  • Address: The device’s IP address.
  • Token: The access token, or ??? if the command cannot determine it automatically.
